If you ever find yourself on the A66 in Cumbria be sure to stop off at this quaint little Cafe and gift shop just outside of Penrith.
The llama karma kafe is the perfect stop off for anyone traveling to the lake district or driving further up towards Scotland for some fresh air and a bite to eat. Lovely Peruvian decor will greet you the moment you step through the door, I especially love the table cloths. Some tables even have old bus seats complete with seat belts and everything, but don’t be put off if you get some furry friends coming to watch you eat your lunch…
I ordered the veggie burger and it was delicious. Infact one of the best veggie burgers I’ve had in a long time, you could really taste all the fresh veggies in there and it was just the right amount of crispiness. My mum ordered the goats cheese and red onion marmalade hot baguette, the red onion marmalade was even made on sight. All of the food served in the cafe is freshly made to order using only the best locally sourced ingredients.
Outside you can see the array of animals here at the cafe from doves to bunnys and marmosets and of course llamas! This is a wonderful way to keep children entertained whilst you wait for your food, or indeed just as entertaining if like me you’re an animal lover. You can also take llamas for a trek or if you have a little less time you can meet the llamas and get a selfie (for a small donation).
The gift shop sells a beautiful range of gifts, toys and clothing. From Llama artwork and cards to clothing made from llama wool there’s nowhere better to find the perfect gift for the llama lover in your life. Or if you’re looking for a more classic gift they have some beautiful peruvian tea lights and throws to choose from.
If you want to stay in the area longer why not spend the night in the llamas pyjama B and B. There are three individually decorated rooms to choose from or if you’re looking for a larger place to stay theres also a stand alone cottage sleeping 4 – 6 people. All of the rooms are decked out in true Peruvian style, you’ll almost feel like you are in South America, until you look out the windows that is.
I had a lovely afternoon here at the llama Karma Kafe and I’m sure you will too if you ever decide to stop by.
